Alinta Gas Pipeline Project
Korrumburra
Compensation settlements have been reached, with landowners represented by GMacq receiving fair and proper access to compensation.
Initially private property owners felt pressured to sign land easements under private treaty. This left farm and land owners no protection under compulsory acquisition law. The private treaty has many benefits for an acquiring authority but none for land owners. In fact, private property owners only gain access to due process, fair property valuation and proper compensation under compulsory acquisition law.
State and local government politicians stepped into the fray in support of Alinta’s private treaty method. A public dispute played out in the media and, after lengthy consultation, Alinta agreed to follow the proper compulsory acquisition process. This provided all private property owners with some peace of mind.

North South Water Pipeline Project
Yea to Yarra Glen
Pipeline construction has commenced as GMacq continues to work with landowners during this very emotional time. This project has been divisive from the outset. Local government and landowners are now united in their insistence Melbourne Water deal with compensation under the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act (Vic) 1986.
The authority had intended to assess compensation under the Water Act (Vic) 1988. Under this law, land owners are provided with a limited avenue to compensation.
With feelings running hot, some public comments exacerbated the situation. It was suggested that land owners allowing the authority planning access constituted tacit support of the project. Gerald McMahon of GMacq was quoted by the Herald Sun counselling all to bear in mind land owners are the innocent bystanders.

Desalination Water Pipeline Project
Lang Lang
GMacq is working with landowners through the early investigation stage. Although the project status is unclear right now, private property owners who may be affected by government exercising power under compulsory acquisition law are informed about the proper process.
